Complication
Date
Shows the day of the month in a small aperture, usually at 3 o'clock.
A date complication uses a flat printed wheel (numbers 1 to 31) seen through a small window on the dial. A driving wheel advances the disk one position every 24 hours via a finger on the hour wheel that engages a star with 31 teeth. Quick-set mechanisms let you adjust the date independently from the hour hand, except in a narrow forbidden zone, usually 9 PM to 3 AM, when the change-over train is engaged.
Inside the Movement
Go beneath the dial and caseback to explore the internal parts that power mechanical and automatic watch movements — from mainsprings and escapements to rotors and gear trains.
